Welcome Bakers
I am so glad you found your way here! I created Whisk Warrior, a community dedicated to home bakers, as a place to share tactical business and marketing resources, news, and advice.
As a former home baker who transitioned to owning a brick and mortar shop, I have almost a decade of experience in this arena. I experienced success and learned a lot of lessons the hard way (ahem, very hard).
While baking has always been a significant part of my day-to-day life, I have over 25 years of professional experience in marketing and public relations outside of my years as a business owner. As you know, there has been tremendous upheaval and growth in marketing over the last ten years. And opportunity!
A few years ago, I sold my retail shop to my baker, who successfully runs it today. But I missed being an active part of the baking community. Realizing that my life experience and professional background could be beneficial brought me immense joy. That is what Whisk Warrior is about: helping home bakers.
When I owned my bakery (home and retail), there were many moments of loneliness and struggle to determine my next steps. How do I get more customers? Should I update my menu? How do I deal with upset customers? Do I need a better system to manage my orders? How do I price my items? What is the best plan for posting on social media?
No doubt, being in this business means you are now so much more than a person who bakes delicious and beautiful cakes, cookies, etc. You are a photographer, social media guru, accountant, delivery driver, shopper, customer service representative, etc.
You are in the right place if
- you are thinking about starting a home bakery but are unsure and feeling overwhelmed.
- you are reviewing your local cottage laws and trying to figure out your next steps.
- you recently started a home bakery and need help with the business or marketing.
- you have an established home bakery but are looking for help with getting more customers or setting up systems to stop feeling exhausted.
Do you want a hobby or a business?
Are you still early in the process of thinking about starting a legal home bakery? Making the decision to turn your hobby into a business is a serious step and must be carefully planned and executed. Here’s a shocker: it’s not for everyone – heck, it’s probably not for most people. Hence, the name “Whisk Warrior.”
The good news is that a home bakery can open up opportunities for you and your family. It’s much less of a burden to start than a brick and mortar operation. And best of all, you can ease into it. You decide how much work you take on.
I see many home bakers who are busy raising their kids or have full-time jobs. You may decide to start with two orders a week and gradually grow from there. You get to choose how you want to move forward.
Check out my blog post, The Big Decision: Is Baking Your Hobby or Your Business, where I ask a bunch of important questions that you should know the answers to before you take the next step.
On this website, you will find many helpful articles and resources that I wish I had before I started my home bakery. If you are curious to know a little more about my background, visit my About page. You can also find me on Instagram where I share weekly tips as well as other resources.
